Three steps

What happens to the file
What stays intact
- The old glyphs are gone from the content stream — nothing hides under a white box.
- Your line keeps the document’s own font, including accents from other subsets of the same family.
- Character and word spacing (Tc / Tw) are preserved, so the line looks like it was typed there.
- Non-metric substitutes are horizontally scaled so the original width — and the page layout — survive.
What it will not do
- A line reflows inside its own box. Rewriting a paragraph so the text flows to the next line is not there yet.
- Symbols and checkbox glyphs are kept exactly as they are, not merged into the line you edit.
- Text drawn as outlines or living inside a form object cannot be rewritten — it is shown read-only with the reason.
Questions about this tool
What is the difference between adding text and editing existing text?
Adding text puts a new object on top of the page; the original words stay underneath, where search, copy-paste and automated parsers still find them. Editing existing text replaces those words in the page itself. Most online editors only do the first, which is why a “corrected” file often still shows the old wording. PDFinline does both, and this page is about the second.
Can I also add new text?
Yes — pick the Text tool and click any empty spot to type a new line. It is exported as real text too, in a metric-compatible font.
Can I move a line, not just retype it?
Yes. Select the line and drag its grip, or nudge it with the arrow keys — 1 pt, or 10 pt with Shift.
Does the edited text stay searchable?
Yes. It is real text in the file, so search, copy-paste, screen readers and parsers all read it.
